Santos Laguna vs CF Montreal Highlights

The visitors tried to surprise the Laguna side and scored a goal after five minutes through Romell Quioto, but it was disallowed after the VAR detected that a previous play had been fouled in favor of the home team.

Santos struggled to take advantage on the scoreboard and Eduardo Aguirre became the most threatening element, he had a clear opportunity, but goalkeeper Sebastián Breza was attentive to avoid the fall of his goal.

Sebastian Breza was the hero of CF Montreal

Aguirre himself had another chance in front of the Montreal goal, but once again the MLS goalkeeper denied the ball, the rebound fell to the Santos striker, but once again Breza deflected the ball.

Santos created more chances in the second half of the match, but lack of precision prevented them from taking the lead on the scoreboard.

Montreal also had dangerous chances in front of the Santos goal, one of them with a mid-distance shot by Quioto, but they did not score and the match remained scoreless.

The actions did not change, there were chances for both teams, but it was Alberto Ocejo who scored the 1-0 for Santos in the 87th minute when he headed the ball into the area, giving the victory to the laguneros. Everything will now be defined in the second leg, to be played on February 22.

How are both teams approaching the second leg?

Santos Laguna:

The team led by Pedro Caixinha has not had the start they had hoped for, since the arrival of the Portuguese coach was an attempt to refresh the squad's ideas, but the opposite has been the case. They are at the bottom of the Liga MX standings with just one point, a draw they achieved in the first match against Tigres.

CF Montreal:

Meanwhile, the Canadian team, which competes in MLS, has not made its debut in the U.S. tournament, which kicks off at the end of February. So, despite having a preseason, the Montreal squad may be lacking in rhythm. This was their first official match of 2022.
