Club América will face one of the toughest games of the season this weekend, when they visit Ciudad Universitaria to face Pumas UNAM, not only because it’s the first Clásico of the season, but also because if they don’t manage to earn the three points it could be the end of Santiago Solari in Las Águilas.

Hernán Crespo could be Santiago Solari’s replacement in Club América

So far, Club América has lost four of their last five games, with the lone victory over Santos Laguna when they visited TSM two weeks ago. On that match, where Las Águilas were able to beat 3-2 Los Guerreros, things seemed to finally start working for Solari.

But that wasn’t the case, as they lost back-to-back games against Mazatlán FC by a 2-1 score, match that was postponed since January, and then against CF Pachuca by a 3-1 score in Estadio Azteca, which jeopardized much more the stay of Santiago Solari in Las Águilas dugout.

Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños gave the Argentine coach a grace period that ends this weekend, and although they hadn’t considered replacing the coach, at least until the end of the season, another defeat for Las Águilas won’t be tolerated, as they are on the bottom of the table.

Who can replace Santiago Solari?

Azcárraga and Baños are still looking for a coach to replace Solari, but the names that they have investigated are Robert Dante Siboldi, who currently is a free agent, and his last team was Xolos de Tijuana in Liga MX.

Other of the names that are on the mix are Nicolás Larcamón and Guillermo Almada, although the two of them currently are coaching in Liga MX., the former with Club Puebla, where he’s said he doesn’t plan on leaving soon, and the latter with CF Pachuca, although he just arrived, which will mean that he most likely won’t leave Tuzos.

The most likely to take over the vacant position is Club América’s Sporting Director, Diego Ramírez, who will become an interim coach in the meantime. Other reports suggest that Alfredo Tena could be the coach that arrives in Coapa until the end of the season, when they’ll have time to define the future in Las Águilas dugout.
