Chivas is no the only club interested in Cruz Azul´s forward Santiago Giménez. Club Atlético San Luis has emerged as a possibility for the Mexican national team player. The main reason why the San Luis team wants the forward is because Cruz Azul asked for center-back Unai Bilbao to reinforce their defense but Club Atlético de San Luis executive board rejected the proposal.

The only way for Cruz Azul to get Unai Bilbao is through a swap

The condition that the board said to Cruz Azul was that the only way the Celeste club could sign Unai Bilbao is through a swap between the forward and the defender.

Santiago Giménez has attracted several suitors as a result of his performances in Liga BBVA MX. Due to his dual nationality, he caught the attention of Chivas, who are looking for strikers because of the lack of goals they have had to deal with in recent tournaments. However, his arrival at the Rebaño Sagrado could be hampered by Club Atlético San Luis.

Unai Bilbao has shown his quality in Mexican soccer with Necaxa and Atlético San Luis respectively. Because out of this, he caught the attention of Cruz Azul, which would put 'Chaquito' Giménez as a bargaining chip to acquire the Spaniard's services.

Chivas needs a Mexican forward

It is an unwritten rule at Chivas, but since its creation, it has been a tradition to play with purely Mexican players. For this reason, it is often difficult for them to find quality reinforcements, in addition to the fact that some teams abuse and raise the price of Mexican-born players who are wanted by the Rebaño Sagrado.

In addition, the pandemic has limited the resources of the Chivas of Guadalajara team, so looking for a signing in the Liga BBVA MX market seems impossible. In fact, they have tried to make exchanges such as that of Sebastián Córdova with América or now the new proposal with Cruz Azul to trade Uriel Antuna and Alejandro Mayorga for Roberto Alvarado.

According to David Medrano, the Rebaño Sagrado would be willing to sign Santiago Giménez. The Cruz Azul player is Mexican, due to the dual nationality of his father "Chaco", and has played with the Mexican national team, but was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The other man that the Mexican team is looking for is Julián Araujo, a Galaxy right back, who was born in California, United States, and who has even worn the jersey of the Stars and Stripes national team before he did it with the Mexican soccer team.

Santiago Gimenez is in preseason with Cruz Azul

However, Santiago Giménez belongs to Cruz Azul at this moment and the player traveled to Cancun for the preseason with all his teammates. The forward had a recent interview with Fox Sports and talked about his impressions of the last season.

In the interview, 'Chaquito' was candid and gave an explanation of what happened with the team in the second part of 2021. "The truth is that we thought that with the ninth title obtained we were going to take the pressure off and we got a little confused because honestly, this club is so big that there is always going to be pressure. We have to fight at the top," said the striker.

Looking ahead to 2022, Santiago Giménez acknowledged that the team will have no more excuses, as now they have had time to have a good preseason. In addition, he assured that the only thing they need to return to the top of Liga MX is to recover that connection they had in Guardians 2021.
