Mexico National Team will face Guatemala on Wednesday night on what will be the first friendly game of the year as part of the Mextour that El Tri does every year in the United States, but given that is not a FIFA match window, the Aztec squad won’t have the regular players.

That’s why Gerardo “Tata” Martino decided to call a team full of young players from Liga MX, as well as a few additions from MLS and Europe that are not essential to their teams, like Marcelo Flores, who has yet to debut with Arsenal, and Jonathan Gómez, who plays for Real Sociedad B.

Martino will use the game to tryout new players, as he still hasn’t decided who are the ones that he’s going to take to Qatar 2022, and among the players that he called up, Chivas’ midfielder Fernando “Nene” Beltrán was one of them.

But on Tuesday morning, Mexico National Team informed in their social media that “Nene” Beltrán wouldn’t be part of the game against Guatemala as he wasn’t fully recovered from a knee injury that he suffered during the weekend.

Cadena, angry for his call-up

On the match against Pumas for the 16 round of Clausura 2022, Fernando Beltrán couldn’t finish the game given that he suffered a discomfort on a knee, which made him leave the game at 56’ to be replaced by Ángel Zaldívar.

Chivas made aware the Mexican Football Federation of Beltrán’s situation, but FMF decided to have him as part of the players that traveled to Orlando. Once they arrived there, they realized that he hadn’t fully recovered, which is why they sent him back.

This situation made Ricardo Cadena angry, as he knows that the trip to Orlando from Guadalajara -almost four hours- prevented him from resting the knee, making him doubtful for Chivas’s game against Club Necaxa, when they’ll try to earn the home advantage in Repechaje.

Why didn’t Cadena want to loan Beltrán?

Given the good streak that Chivas is having, Ricardo Cadena wants to have the full roster ready to play both the last game of the regular season and Liguilla, but instead of having time to rest, Beltrán hasn’t had time to recover, which could leave him out for at least a game.
