Pumas will debut tonight against Toluca with the lone addition of Omar Islas

Pumas had a rather quiet offseason after they were eliminated by Atlas on the semifinals of Apertura 2021. But instead of strengthening their team to repeat or surpass what they did last season, the Universitarios decided to part ways with Erik Lira, who joined Cruz Azul.

Club Universidad Nacional never hit the market to find a replacement for the Mexican defensive midfielder, nor any other position, for what matters. The only addition they had for Clausura 2022 was the one of Omar Islas, a player that already belonged to the team but last season played for PumasTabasco, on Liga de Expansión.

After postponing the game due to the covid cases both teams had, tonight on Ciudad Universitaria they will face a Toluca team that completely renewed the roster they had last season, after adding 5 new players and their coach. Pumas will rely on what they already hadin hopes of a miracle that could help them reach La Liguilla one more time.

Who is the lone addition of Pumas, Omar Islas?

Omar islas is a Mexican striker that has been part of the Academy teams of the Universitarios. He’s played on a loan for several Mexican lower division teams, but at 25, after a good tournament with Pumas Tabasco, where he scored 6 goals in 16 games, he’ll have his chance to prove his worth with the senior team.
