Pumas UNAM and New England Revolution have met two times in their history. The MLS team has won both matches, the first in 2010 in the CONCACAF North American Super League and the second in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the current CONCACAF Champions League season. Pumas UNAM will be looking for its first win at home.
Pumas are slight favorites against New England Revolution. The Auriazules are playing at home and will be going all out as they are 0-3 down. The odds are +100 at bookmakers. The draw is given at +270 odds. Meanwhile, Revs’ victory is at +250 odds.
The Auriazules are not only facing a disadvantage on the scoreboard but also in terms of statistics. In their history of participating in the international tournament, they have barely managed to come from behind in one series after losing the first match.
Of the four occasions on which Pumas started out losing, they only managed to recover on one occasion. That was during the 2009-10 edition when they faced Marathón of Honduras in the quarterfinals.
With the away goals rule, Pumas will need to score five goals to advance if the Revs manage to score. That simple fact has head coach and manager Bruce Arena expecting a tough game as New England looks to clinch its first CCL semifinal berth.
"The weather conditions, last game it was snowing and probably 30 degrees in Foxborough," Arena said. "Here, it will probably be 65 degrees at kickoff on a good field and probably a good crowd, totally different than the scenario we saw at Foxborough. Their tactics are going to change. They're three goals down in the contest, so they'll be very aggressive and they'll definitely be in attack mode."
