One of the best things that happened to Club América in Clausura 2022 was the departure of Santiago Solari, who was sacked after eight rounds given the poor results that he achieved with Las Águilas, although not all the players agree with it.

Can Fernando Ortíz have the same fate in Club América than the one of Antonio Mohamed?

Since Solari left and was replaced by Fernando “Tano” Ortíz, Las Águilas have become one of the best teams in Liga MX, as they finished the season with eight straight games without a single defeat, including a six-game winning streak.

One of the things that “El Tano” Ortíz managed to do to improve the performances of Club América, was to build the lineup according to the strengths of the players on the roster, something that Solari didn’t do, as he was stuck with a 4-3-3 formation.

Ortíz found in Richard Sánchez and Álvaro Fidalgo the perfect duo in the midfield, with Diego Valdés with the freedom to move above them but below the striker, that in the last few games was Federico Viñas instead of Henry Martín.

Not everyone is happy with the current system

One of the players that doesn’t like the decisions that Fernando Ortíz has implemented in Club América since his arrival is Pedro Aquino, who was injured when the change of coaches happened, as he suffered a metatarsal fracture when playing for Peru National Team.

Once he was able to return, he realized that Ortíz had already found his starting XI, which is why according to reports he’s requesting to leave Club América, as he is looking for more playing time, something he used to have whit Solari.

In the current season, the 27-year-old Peruvian midfielder has played only five games, two of them as a starter when Solari was still coaching Las Águilas and the other three with Ortíz, jumping into the pitch as a substitute on two occasions and starting the last game of the regular season.

Where can he play next season?

If his departure ends up happening, there’s a few clubs in Liga MX where he can play, like Atlas or Club Santos, given the good relationship that exists between Emilio Azcárraga and Grupo Orlegi, who usually trade players every season.
