Chivas are looking to part ways with Ángel Zaldívar and they already have his replacement

After Almeyda parted ways with MLS side San José Earthquakes back in mid-April, everything pointed towards a reunion with Chivas, who days before had sacked Marcelo Michel Leaño given the poor results that he achieved during his stint with El Rebaño.

But Amaury Vergara closed the doors to the last coach that gave Chivas a title -five titles in three years, to be more precise-, as he still hasn’t forgiven Almeyda for the discussion they had when he decided to resign in 2018.

Now, Almeyda already has a new job where he wants to have at least one Chivas player, something that he also did when he was coaching the Quakes, as there were usually a couple of Mexican players in the roster during his stint.

Who is the player that Almeyda wants in Greece?

Almeyda has never hidden the affection he feels towards Chivas, which is why he’s aware of the current situation of El Rebaño Sagrado, and just like he did during his stint in the MLS, he’s ready to give a new chance to a player that has been erased from Chivas’s roster.

According to reports from ESPN, one of the first requests that Almeyda did after his arrival in the Super League Greece is to acquire Chivas’s offensive midfielder Eduardo “Chofis” López, player that he knows well from both his stint in Chivas and in San José Earthquakes.

For now, “Chofis” López is still part of the Quakes, as they renewed his loan for six months more prior the 2022 MLS Season started. Although San José Earthquakes have an option to buy him at the end of his loan, “Chofis” has lost his protagonist role when Almeyda left, which could benefit AEK Athens in their pursue for the Mexican midfielder.

How much is “Chofis” López worth?

Although according to Transfermarkt his market value is set at $2.6 million, once El Rebaño Sagrado loaned him to San José Earthquakes, they established a $7 million clause if they were to acquire him, which is the same figure that they will ask if AEK Athens tries to sign him.
