Cruz Azul couldn’t beat Tigres in the first leg of the quarterfinals of Clausura 2022, thanks to a mistake by Adrián Aldrete who couldn’t clear the ball in a bad pass by Jesús Dueñas that ended up finding the net, as Aldrete’s feint left Sebastián Jurado out of the play.

Jurado has become the regular starter for La Máquina after having a debut in Clausura 2022 full of mistakes against Club Puebla but given the injury that José de Jesús “Chuy” Corona suffered during warmups on Cruz Azul’s visit to CF Montréal, he had to remain in the lineup.

The lack of regularity was evident during the first matches that he played, as games went by, he regained his confidence back and ended up becoming the hero of La Máquina in the Repechaje game against Club Necaxa, where he stopped two kicks on the penalty shootout that defined the winner.

Although it was expected that “Chuy” Corona returned to his starting role once he was fully recovered, the outstanding performance that Jurado had, added to the trust that Juan Reynoso has given him left Corona on the bench.

Corona is not happy with his new role

But in Cruz Azul’s locker room, it seems like the only player that currently is thriving is Sebastián Jurado, as reports from W Deportes Radio informed that the players are not happy with the decisions and rotations that Reynoso has established during the season.

One of the players that had an altercation with him was precisely “Chuy” Corona, something that influenced Reynoso’s decision of benching him in the past few games, even if he was already recovered from his injury.

Now that Corona has been condemned to be the second goalkeeper of Cruz Azul, if he wants to keep having playing time he knows he’ll have to look for it somewhere else, even if his intention was to fulfill his contract with La Máquina.

Where will he play next season?

For now, the 41-year-old goalkeeper has 18 more months of contract with Cruz Azul, but before analyzing where his career can continue, he will wait until Clausura 2022 is over, as he knows that Reynoso will leave La Máquina and the new coach can give him back his place in the starting XI.
