After being sporting director of Club América, Cruz Azul and Mexico National Team, Ricardo Peláez arrived at Chivas in 2019 as the executive that was going to change the team’s poor results gathered for the past two years.

Just like with Raúl Gudiño, Chivas want to acquire a Mexican goalkeeper that plays in Europe

One of his first decisions was to go on a spending spree for Clausura 2022, as El Rebaño spend more than $50 million over the winter transfer window to rebuild their roster, acquiring players like Uriel Antuna, Gilberto Sepúlveda, Alejandro Mayorga, and Cristian “Chicote” Calderón.

Although the intention was to have a competitive team, only with Victor Manuel Vucetich they were able to transcend for one season, as they reached one semifinal with him, in Apertura 2020, before being eliminated in consecutive seasons in Repechaje.

Some of the additions that arrived along Peláez couldn’t succeed at Chivas and are no longer part of the team, while other have keep struggling to find regularity, but the sporting director of El Rebaño’s stubbornness of wanting to impose his system, has made him one of the most hated people in Chivas’s structure.

Nelly Simón was successful with Chivas Women

On the other hand, Chivas Women, who don’t have a budget to acquire players like the men team does with regularity, was able to build a team for Clausura 2022 that ended winning Liga MX Women title after four years of constant domination of Tigres and Rayadas, the two teams with the biggest infrastructure in the Women’s league.

Chivas Women beat Pachuca Women 4-3 in the final, giving Chivas’s followers their first title since the CONCACAF Champions League won by Matías Almeyda in 2018, which is why they are already asking for Nelly Simón, sporting director of Chivas Women, to substitute Peláez.

With Simón at the top of the structure, Chivas Women based their success not in big additions, like Tigres and Rayadas have done, but instead on a good scouting to find hidden gems, as well as the experience of players like Alicia Cervantes and Blanca Félix.

What does she ask to replace Peláez?

One of the things that benefited Chivas Women was having a coach that knows the institution from within, like Juan Pablo “Pato” Alfaro, which is why he would consider having Ricardo Cadena as Chivas coach unlike Peláez. The other thing that she’d request is to have freedom to sign new players and take the decisions needed.
