Today, Monterrey defeated Al Jazira 3-1 in the fifth place match of the FIFA Club World Cup, after having been defeated in their first match of the tournament by Al-Ahly

In a hard-fought match, Los Rayados sought to win at all costs to try to reconcile with their fans, after they showed their rejection of the team following their embarrassing defeat in their debut in the tournament. 

The goals with which Monterrey beat Al Jazira for fifth place in the FIFA Club World Cup

The goals were scored by Rogelio Funes Mori and another by César Montes, but the first goal of the match was an own goal by Zayed Sultan in the 4th minute of the match. 

And at the end of the match, Al Jazira managed to score through Bruno, in the 90+1 minute. 

The duel began with the great news that the player César Montes was going to participate in the match; the player could not participate in the Pandilla's first duel due to a positive COVID-19 test, but he was able to be ready for this match. 

Monterrey began to try from minute 2, when "Ponchito" González missed the first goal after receiving a great cross, but failed to control the ball and it fell to the turf.

However, in the 4th minute, the Rayados' attempts bore fruit when Sultan Zayed scored in his own goal after a cross from Stefan Medina.

Everything indicated that the ball had not gone in, but through the VAR, the referees made the goal valid for Rayados. 

The second goal of the match came at minute 11, when Maxi Meza served an exceptional cross to Funes Mori, who was in charge of finishing alone in the area.

Later, at minute 24, César Montes scored with a powerful header to make the score 3-0.

At the end of the match in the 90+1 minute, Al Jazira scored its only goal of the match when Diaby assisted Bruno, who finished alone in the box to score the consolation goal.

With this score, Monterrey earned fifth place in the tournament, despite having started the match losing to Al-Ahly.

With this 3-1 victory over Al Jazira, the club coached by Javier Aguirre was able to bring a good end to its participation in the competition after being defeated in its debut by Al Jazira. 

The club will now return to play in Liga MX, where its next match will be in Round 6 of the tournament against Puebla on Friday, February 18.
