Several media outlets in Mexico report that the Tigres vs Santos Liga MX match scheduled for next Saturday has been suspended due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the Nuevo Leon team.

So far, there is no official statement from Liga MX or the affected teams.

But the media that reported the news quoting the organization and say that it was decided to reschedule the match due to the contagions

When will the Liga MX Round 1 Santos vs Tigres match be played?

At the moment the media reporting the news have said that the match is expected to take place in the middle of this month, although there is still no date or time stipulated.

The duel was originally scheduled to be played next Saturday, January 8 at Estadio Corona TSM at 7:00 p.m. Mexico time.

For now, there is no information on the subject on the social media accounts of both teams, but both are expected to confirm this information in the next few hours.

Liga MX reached this decision due to the multiple contagions that have occurred in Mexican soccer, which were made public in the first days of January.

The highest authority of Mexican soccer announced that up to December 30, 93 infections had been registered in different categories of Mexican soccer

In other words, the infections affected not only those who play in Liga MX but also Liga MX Women's, Liga MX Expansion, and the Basic Forces of several clubs.

How are the infections going in Tigres?

So far, only a couple of infections were known to have occurred in Chivas, but the situation in Tigres is already worrying

This is because at least six players have tested positive for COVID-19 in the most recent tests they have undergone.

Although the identities of all the infected players in the squad are not known, it is known that Carlos Salcedo, Jesús Angulo, and Carlos González were among the first to be infected.

According to Liga MX and its protocol, there would have to be more than 10 people infected in a club to consider suspending the match

However, the Mexican media have only commented on the Liga MX's decision, but have not commented on the number of people already infected at Tigres, which in effect would support the decision to postpone the game.

For now, the information has not been confirmed by the clubs or the organization, but if so, this match would be the first of the tournament to be suspended.
