According to ESPN, both clubs have reached an agreement for a possible trade, and Luis Romo also agrees to move to Javier Aguirre´s squad. Meanwhile, Charly Rodríguez is analyzing Cruz Azul’s contract proposal and will have an answer soon.

Charly Rodríguez Ok is key for the club’s agreement

Monterrey and Cruz Azul are just waiting for Charly Rodríguez’s answer. The Mexican national soccer team player and defensive midfielder would determine if the agreement between the clubs is an exchange or a definitive purchase of Monterrey for Cruz Azul player Luis Romo.

If the trade goes on, it will be another big movement in this transfer window after the swap between Cruz Azul and Chivas de Guadalajara between Roberto Alvarado, Uriel Antuna, and Alejandro Mayorga players. Also Sebastían Córdova arrival to Tigres UANL leaving América or Diego Valdés and Jonathan Dos Santos joining América are the moves that have had more impact in the Liga MX.

Since December 23, Cruz Azul executive board proposed to Monterrey to make a trade where they offered Luis Romo in an exchange for Charly Rodríguez or Erick Gutiérrez. If Rayados did not want to trade players, they also proposed a $5 million purchase for former Querétaro player and midfielder Luis Romo.

Monterrey counteroffer

After this proposal, many sources said that Monterrey made a counteroffer to Cruz Azul. Instead of Erick Gutiérrez, they offer the trade involving Charly Rodríguez plus payment of an unrevealed amount from La Máquina to compensate for the two-year age difference.

Romo is 26 and Rodríguez is 24, as well as the fact that the Celeste player has one year left on his contract -until December 2022- and the player from the Monterrey club still has more time left on his current contract with Rayados -until June 30, 2023.

Monterrey is looking for reinforcements for the 2022 Clausura tournament which begins on January 6 and for the FIFA Club World Cup. So far, Javier Aguirre's team has not signed any player during the winter transfer window.

Monterrey lost Tabó's signing to Cruz Azul

Initially, Christian Tabó was almost signed, but the Uruguayan finally opted for Cruz Azul due to his close relationship with Peruvian coach Juan Reynoso.

Rayados also made offers for Rodolfo Pizarro and Alexis Vega, but so far neither has been agreed upon.

Cruz Azul will add its fourth reinforcement for 2022 Clausura

Meanwhile, after signing Tabó two weeks ago, Cruz Azul will announce Uriel Antuna and Alejandro Mayorga as reinforcements today. If the exchange of Romo for Charly Rodríguez is completed, Cruz Azul will have its fourth reinforcement and will only be looking for a South American central defender and a striker, the latter in the possibility that Jonathan Rodríguez leaves the club.
