After the scandalous incident that occurred in the second leg of the semifinal between Felinos and Zorros, in which the former fielded more foreigners than allowed, Liga MX has sanctioned Tigres, with Gignac and Nahuel paying the price.

This is because, although the main punishment goes to the Felino board of directors, the two players were the most affected by the shameful event that took place at the Universitario-UANL Stadium.

What was the sanction imposed on Tigres by Liga MX?

According to the statement released by the Mexican Soccer Federation and the Disciplinary Commission, in addition to the economic sanction that the club will have to pay, the goals scored by both Gignac and Lichnovsky in the duel are annulled.

This sanction is due to the fact of having violated the provisions of Articles 48 and 49.7 of the Liga MX Competition Regulations, and the result of the match should have been 0-2 in favor of Club Atlas.

The sanction is a consequence of the incident that took place last Saturday, May 21, when, in the match against Atlas, Tigres fielded 1 foreigner too many, as the maximum limit is 8 of them on the field, when, in that match, Miguel Herrera fielded 9.

As a result, Liga MX decided to sanction the team and, in addition, the punishment ended up affecting not only the team's board of directors, but also seriously affected the record of the team's goalscorer, André Pierre-Gignac.

Why were Gignac and Nahuel the most affected by the sanction?

In the case of André Pierre-Gignac, the French striker saw his 3 goals scored in the match, with which he had set a new record in his career in Mexican soccer, erased with the stroke of a pen

It is worth remembering that with these goals, Gignac became the third-highest scorer in the history of the league. Before the match, André Pierre Gignac had scored 26 goals and thanks to his hat-trick, he had 29 goals, surpassing Alberto García Aspe, who has 28 goals in his career.

Tigres' goalkeeper, Nahuel Guzmán, was also sanctioned after the match, when, according to the Disciplinary Commission, he was caught on video complaining and calling his board corrupt.

"Nahuel Ignacio Guzmán Palomeque is sanctioned with an economic sanction for having transgressed the provisions of articles 11 and 26 of the Code of Ethics of the Mexican Federation of Association Football, A.C., by insulting his board of directors", is what can be read in the communiqué released by the body.

The Commission also stated in its communiqué that if the player repeats these actions, he will be sanctioned again, but with more severe punishment.

"The player, Nahuel Ignacio Guzmán Palomeque is warned about his future conduct, since in case this type of action is committed again, the Disciplinary Commission may impose more severe sanctions against him", is what can be read in the communiqué released by the Disciplinary Commission.
