In addition to the top four teams in the overall standings that reached the quarterfinals, the only surprise was Atlético de San Luis, which finished the regular phase in 10th place and eliminated Rayados, in 7th place in the standings.

Pachuca vs. Atlético de San Luis

The Tuzos finished as leaders of the Clausura 2022 tournament and will face Liguilla debutants, Atlético de San Luis. The team from Potosí defeated Rayados in the playoffs at the BBVA Stadium, in a penalty shootout, after recovering from a one-goal deficit, turning it around, and allowing a last-minute equalizer.

This will be the first time that the two teams will meet in the final phase, although in the past the Tuzos have played against clubs from the city of San Luis. Under the administration of Atlético de San Luis, it will be the first time that both teams have met in the Mexican soccer playoffs. However, the Potosí franchise has met Pachuca twice before in the final phase, with each side winning one of the two matches.

Pachuca won the 2006 Clausura final, but the Tuneros won in the 2008 Clausura playoff.

Tigres vs Cruz Azul

Miguel Herrera's team will face Juan Reynoso's Cruz Azul, who beat Necaxa on penalties in the playoffs. La Maquina was unable to hold off Los Rayos during the 90 minutes and needed to go to penalty kicks to beat Jaime Lozano's team 3-1.

This will be the fourth time that Tigres and Cruz Azul have faced each other in a Mexican soccer final phase, an instance in which the Nuevo León team has a positive balance after winning two series, the semifinal of the Invierno 2001 and the quarterfinals of the Apertura 2003; while La Máquina won the quarterfinals of the Apertura 2020.

Atlas vs Chivas

Chivas had a resounding 4-1 win over Pumas in reclassification and will face the reigning Liga MX champion, Atlas, in yet another edition of the Clásico Tapatío in the Liguilla.

Guadalajara has dominated Atlas in the final stages of Mexican soccer, in which they have met on four occasions, with three wins for Chivas, all of them right in the quarterfinals, in the Verano 2000, Clausura 2015, and Clausura 2017; while the red-and-blacks won the series in the same instance in the Apertura 2004.

América vs Puebla

América will be in action in the quarterfinals against Puebla, a team that defeated Mazatlán on penalties to reach its third consecutive Liguilla under the guidance of Nicolás Larcamón.

Although both teams have a long-standing tradition in Mexican soccer, this will be the first time that both teams will meet in the final phase since the short tournaments were implemented in the Invierno 1996 competition.
