Who is Marcel Ruiz?

Marcel Alejandro Ruiz Suarez is a Mexican soccer player who plays as an attacking midfielder for Club Tijuana of Liga MX 2022, who yesterday beat the champion Atlas, defeating the Zorros with a score of 2-0 and giving them their first defeat of the season.

The second goal of the match came in the 20th minute from Christian Rivera, but the most eye-catching player of the match was Ruiz, who with his goal in the 12th minute gave his team the confidence to move forward.

Where and when was Marcel Ruiz born?

Marcel Ruiz was born on October 26, 2000, in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, and began his career in the world of soccer at a very young age, as he started in the youth categories of Venados Fútbol Club in 2013, after standing out with the Venados playing in the U-15 team.

Ruiz quickly stood out among his teammates and because of this, a Querétaro scout took him to form part of the club's youth categories, and for the Apertura 2018, he was called up to the first team by Rafael Puente Del Río and made his professional debut in the Copa México, playing two games.

Ruiz would later make his first division debut on Friday, July 20, 2018, curiously against Atlas Fútbol Club. The talented Mexican player would score his first goal in the First Division on matchday 6 against Pumas UNAM.

When did Marcel Ruiz arrive at Xolos de Tijuana?

On June 17, 2020, his arrival at Club Tijuana became official and his debut with the team was on August 6 in a league match against Tigres, in which he started as a starter and completed the entire match, although, in the end, his team ended up drawing 0-0 with the feline team.

Has Marcel Ruiz played with the Mexican national soccer team?

Yes, but so far he has not been called up to participate with Mexico's senior national team. 

His first call-up was on June 30, 2019, to play in the 2019 Pan American Games in Peru, where he played the second match of the group stage against Argentina in which he came on as a substitute at the 78th minute.

Later he would also play against Ecuador, where he also came on as a substitute at minute 59; and his third game was in the semifinal round against Honduras where he was a starter and came on as a substitute, in a game that the Mexican team would lose.

In the end, he won the bronze medal with El Tri in a 1-0 victory over Uruguay.

Later he would be called up to the 2019 Esperanzas de Toulon Tournament by Jaime Lozano, but he only played one match in the match for third place against Ireland, starting as a starter.

More recently, on May 14, 2021, he received a call-up to play a preparation tour in Marbella, Spain.
