The Felinos want everything in the next tournament because the rumor has just gained strength that for Liga MX 2022, they will go all out for Samuel Gigot, from Spartak Moscow, to add him to their reinforcements.
The team from the University of Nuevo León probably wants to bet again on a French player after seeing the excellent results that his previous bet brought to the club.
And their previous bet was none other than Andre Pierre-Gignac, a player who has won everything in the Mexican tournament since he arrived in Liga MX.
The news was made public by journalist Vladimir García, from TUDN, who shared on his Twitter account that Tigres was close to incorporating a foreigner into its club.
"Tigres is close to closing the third reinforcement, a foreign central defender who plays abroad, if it happens it will be a great signing and will be the stellar reinforcement. When? Next week," wrote the journalist on his Twitter account.
Later, the Tigres Draft Twitter account provided the name of the French defender, who, by the way, already follows his countryman André-Pierre Gignac on Instagram.
While there is still no confirmation from the club or the player, this addition to the team would not be surprising as Gignac could help him adapt to the club more quickly.
Could this be a clear sign that the player is about to arrive in Mexican soccer?
Gigot is a 28-year-old central defender, born in Avignon, France, who has been playing for the Russian club since 2018.
With a height of 6.1 feet, ideal for winning in divided balls, and a natural right-footed player, Samuel Gigot arrived in Russia from Belgian soccer.
He has been with Spartak for four seasons and has already played in Champions League qualifiers and the Europa League group stage. According to Transfermarkt, his market value is 12.10 million dollars.
Looking ahead to the 2022 Clausura, Samuel Gigot would be the club's third reinforcement as they seek to win the league title; last year the Felinos' aspirations were destroyed by Leon, who were also runners-up.
If Tigres succeeds, Gigot would join Sebastian Cordova and Jesus "Stich" Angulo as the club's new reinforcements as it looks for greater prominence in 2022.
Although it is a fact that Tigres has a good team, if this signing is confirmed, it would be clear that they are looking to strengthen their defense, which was the weak link in the last tournament.
Gigot would arrive from Spartak Moscow, a team that belongs to the royalty of Russian soccer and has participated in both the Europa League and the Champions League.
In addition to being one of the most dominant teams in the Russian Premier League, Spartak was founded on April 18, 1922, and plays its home games at the Luzhniki Olympic Stadium.
The club has won twelve Soviet Union league championships and, after the fall of the Soviet bloc, nine Russian league championships.
It has also won ten Soviet Cups, three Russian Cups, six CIS Cups and has reached the semifinals of all three European competitions.
It is popularly known as "the people's team".
