Leon and Tigres UANL will clash off this Saturday night, December 3rd, at Estadio Nou Camp to define the first runner-up for the La Liga MX final. “Los felinos” will host Tigres UANL to try to reverse the loss of the first leg.

Leon only has to win by a one-goal margin to reach the semifinals. Even if the aggregate score is tied, Leon advances to the next round because it has more points in the overall standings in the regular season.

On the other hand, Tigres would only need to tie the score as they have a one-goal lead thanks to the result of the first leg. In the event of a 1-1 or 2-2 draw, for example, they would have one more goal and would be finalists.

Leon vs Tigres UANL: First leg resume

In a match with a lot of grit, Tigres continued to demonstrate that they were the best offense in the tournament. With Florian Thauvin, André-Pierre Gignac, and Carlos González, the ones led by Miguel Herrera, took the lead for the second leg of the Semifinals, after coming from behind in the final minutes.

With a bit of controversy due to a VAR decision, the first match of the Semifinals of the Apertura 2021 kicked off at the Volcán. With a few minutes on the clock, León approached the goal of Nahuel Guzmán, who, after trying to protect his goal, brought down Ángel Mena, but when the play was checked, it was ruled offside and the Argentine was saved from being sent off to the locker room early on the match.

As the game progressed, “La Fiera”, as they are called colloquially in Mexico, began to be dominated with great intensity, as they weren´t accurate on the pitch with no goals. Finally, in the first half Tigres and León went to the break without hurting each other.

When the match resumed, everything seemed to indicate that the team from the Sultana del Norte would take the lead in the scoreboard before Leon but this doesn’t happen that way. However, they were surprised by the Panzas Verdes, who took the advantage after a great play on the left side by the Chilean Jean Meneses.

Finally, the home team drove their fans crazy after Frenchman Florian Thauvin scored the equalizer with a scissor kick that sent the ball into the back of the net, while near the end Carlos González did the same after a shot inside the box to turn the score around.
