Since before Juan Reynoso first arrived in Cruz Azul, Jaime Ordiales was opposing to having the Peruvian coach on La Máquina’s bench, as he thought he didn’t have the resumé nor the capabilities of managing a team like Cruz Azul.

Cruz Azul could lose Juan Reynoso thanks to Club América

And even after Reynoso proved him wrong by giving Cruz Azul their first Liga MX title of the century, breaking a 23-year long streak without a title, Ordiales hasn’t changed his mind towards Juan Reynoso, who has made La Máquina a contender once again.

Reynoso showed that he can coach any team, as he coached Club Puebla the season before his arrival in Cruz Azul and the arrival of Nicolás Larcamón, setting the bases for the project that now has La Franja and Larcamón as leaders of Clausura 2022.

But since Ordiales returned to La Máquina this semester, his goal has been to find a replacement for Juan Reynoso, given that he doesn’t like the current coach and that the tight schedule that Cruz Azul has is starting to take its toll, as they have won just one game of the last five they’ve played.

Who could replace Reynoso?

Ordiales is already looking for potential replacements for Reynoso if Cruz Azul doesn’t manage to win both in CONCACAF Champions League and Liga MX, as they’ll play the quarterfinals this Wednesday against CF Montréal.

Some of the names that could arrive in Cruz Azul are Matías Almeyda, who currently coaches MLS side San Jose Earthquakes, and Mexican former striker Hugo Sánchez, who is willing to take over the team, given the competitive roster they have.

What will happen to Juan Reynoso?

If Reynoso ends up leaving Cruz Azul, he might not have to wait that long for a new job, as Peru National Team is considering parting ways with Ricardo Gareca, given that they are on the brink of elimination from the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Blanquirrojos are fifth in CONMEBOL Qualifiers, and with two games left to play, they might not be able to arrive in Qatar 2022, which will open the door for Reynoso, as the Peruvian coach has impressed with his performances in Liga MX with both Club Puebla and Cruz Azul.
