The last time that Hugo Sánchez coach in Liga MX was in 2012, when he was in CF Pachuca’s dugout for 23 games. Since then, he’s been out of activity, although he hasn’t left the soccer industry, as he’s been a TV analyst for the past few years.

Ronaldinho could have help from this former Manchester United player to save Club Querétaro

Although he said that his stint with Los Tuzos is what diminished his wish of keep coaching, as he felt used for his image rather than supported by the management, he has claimed in the past that he wants to return to the pitches and has opened the doors to Real Madrid.

Most of his coaching career has happened in Liga MX, where he debuted in 2000 with Pumas UNAM, team that he coached for five years and made them the first club to win back-to-back Liga MX titles since the short tournaments were established in 1996.

But he could take a new opportunity in Liga MX if the right offer arrives, something that could happen for the next season, as a new franchise will be playing in the 2022-23 Liga MX Season instead of Club Querétaro, who must be sold after the brawl that happened on Estadio Corregidora.

What’s the club that can sign him?

According to reports, one of the teams that has most possibilities of acquiring Club Querétaro from Jorgealberto Hank and Grupo Caliente is Atlético Morelia, who were established two years ago after Monarcas Morelia was relocated in Mazatlán.

The Canarios currently play in Liga de Expansión, Mexico’s second flight, but they’re one of the five teams that fulfill all the requirements asked by Liga MX to be able to eventually get promoted to Liga MX once the system of promotion/relegation returns to Mexican soccer in 2023.

Although Morelia has an established fanbase, the addition of Hugo Sánchez as their coach could improve their reach, not only in Mexico but in other countries, as “Hugol” is one of the most known Mexican players.

Who is behind the return of Morelia to Liga MX?

According to sports journalist Luis Castillo, the project of returning Morelia to Mexico’s top flight could become a reality thanks to the investment of José Luis Higuera, who has been involved in Mexican soccer for a while. He’s mostly remembered for his stint as Chivas sporting director.
