Club América were able to keep up the good streak and now have 10 straight games without knowing what a defeat is, thanks to the 3-2 victory over Club Puebla in the second leg of the quarterfinals of Clausura 2022.

Israel Reyes's reaction after scoring against Club América, team that wants to sign him next season

After a 2-1 defeat on his debut as coach of the first team of Las Águilas against CF Monterrey, Fernando “Tano” Ortíz has now a record of seven victories and three draws, results that helped them leave the bottom of the table and finish the regular season standing fourth.

“El Tano” not only managed to earn good results, but the most important thing that he has managed to do so far during his stint with the first team is building team chemistry and helping the players recover their confidence, something that they lost with Santiago Solari.

But even if Emilio Azcárraga is happy with the results that the Argentine coach was achieved since he took over Las Águilas, Santiago Baños isn’t convinced that he is the best option moving forward, which is why he already has the coach that will take over the team.

Who is the coach that will arrive at América?

During the broadcasting of the game, TUDN commentators and analysts informed that not even the ticket to the semifinals has ensured the presence of Fernando Ortíz in Las Águilas’s dugout for Apertura 2022 given that Baños doesn’t trust him.

The reports suggest that the only way in which Ortíz will be able to keep his current job is if Club América manages to win Liga MX title, as the pressure of coaching a team like Las Águilas is just starting to reach the Argentine coach.

Given his lack of experience, Santiago Baños is looking to sign a more experienced coach who knows what it’s like to win a Liga MX title, someone like Diego Cocca, who helped Atlas to break a 71-year drought without a single championship.

What will it take for América to sign him?

According to reports, the Argentine coach hasn’t renewed his contract with Atlas, and will become a free agent once Clausura 2022 is over, which will allow Club América to sign him for free, as they only have to negotiate his salary.
