Monterrey will have to carry out the final stage of its preparation for the Club World Cup with a squad that is too short, as it will have to work without 10 players, as that was the number of players called up by various national teams for the current FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Although it is not expected that any member of the Monterrey team will miss the Club World Cup opener against Al-Ahly on February 5, it is true that Vasco will not be working with a full squad during the FIFA date, and although it is not the only team in the Club World Cup with called-up players, it is the one with the most players in the national teams.

Players who were called up to their national team

La Pandilla, as Monterrey is known in Mexico, has 10 players called up to the different national teams, five of them for Mexico: Rogelio Funes Mori, Jesús Gallardo, Luis Romo, César Montes and Héctor Moreno; for Argentina, Esteban Andrada and Maxi Meza; for Chile, Sebastián Vegas; for Colombia, Stefan Medina and Joel Campbell for Costa Rica.

While Monterrey is working at the El Barrial facilities, the five players called up to El Tri are in Jamaica for Thursday's game and will return to Mexico to face Costa Rica on Sunday 30. In case Tata Martino still needs them, they will remain for the February 2 match against Panama.

In the case of the CONMEBOL players, the four will play the double date of the World Cup qualifiers, which end on February 1. They will then travel to Abu Dhabi as soon as possible to rejoin the Albiazul squad, while Joel Campbell will do so after February 2.

"We spoke with the FMF and the League to see what we could have with the players called up and there is a probability that if there are good results, they will let them travel after the second match (against Costa Rica). We have to adapt, and on the issue with Conmebol, the communication is the same, that they can fly as best as possible directly to Abu Dhabi," said Duilio Davino, sports president of Rayados.

Palmeiras and Chelsea will have almost full squads

The Conmebol and UEFA champions, who begin their participation in the Club World Cup Semifinals, will not suffer due to the FIFA date, as Palmeiras plays on February 8 and Chelsea on February 9, although they will not have many members of the national team.

Palmeiras would face Rayados if Monterrey beat Al-Ahly, but only Gustavo Gómez (Paraguay) and Weverton (Brazil) have been called up for the Conmebol qualifiers, which end on February 1, so they have enough time to return and train.

Chelsea will only be without Thiago Silva (Brazil), who is traveling to play in the Conmebol qualifiers, and Edouard Mendy, the goalkeeper who is playing in the African Cup of Nations with Senegal, after not playing for the UEFA national teams.
