In recent days there were rumors that Diego Reyes was joining Getafe, but the player denied them through his social networks. After the Tigres player posted a tweet saying that he was traveling to Madrid, the press alarms went off to decipher what that mean, and immediately a possible move to Getafe began to sound.

The fact that the actual manager for the Spanish side Quique Sánchez Flores once coached Diego Reyes when both were members of the Espanyol team, made the Mexican press think that the Tigres player was on his way to close a possible agreement with Getafe. Jose Juan Macías, a Mexican player and former Chivas of Guadalajara side, plays under Quique´s orders, however, is not liked by the coach, thus, he has not played minutes since the arrival of the Spanian.

Twitter Post denying rumors

Nevertheless, after the Madrid tweet, Diego posted another one, saying that no one guessed why he traveled to Madrid and then wrote: “I will be back for preseason on December 20 with Miguel Herrera´s side”.

Reyes earned a starting spot with Miguel Herrera's team in the final stages of the Apertura 2021 and is under contract with Tigres until June 2022. So far, he has 55 appearances with the Felinos, as well as four goals and one assist.

He was able to win the CONCACAF Champions League with the felines, winning second place in the Club World Cup, after losing the final of the tournament to Bayern Munich. He has achieved regularity with the Nuevo León team.

Diego Reyes European Clubs

The Club América youth player moved to Europe in 2013 to join Porto. Before returning to Mexico in the summer of 2019 with Tigres, Diego played in the Old Continent for the Dragons, Real Sociedad, Espanyol, Fenerbahce, and Leganés. If he were to join Getafe, it would be his fourth team in the Spanish First Division.

The Azulón team, as colloquially are call in Spain, where Mexican José Juan Macías plays, had one of the worst league starts in its history under Míchel González, former Pumas coach. Currently, with Quique Sánchez Flores on the bench, the Madrid team is in the second last position in the standings, with 12 points and only two victories in 17 matches.

There will be no return to Europe, nor a new Mexican teammate for José Juan Macías at Getafe. Reyes is still in the plans of 'Piojo' Herrera, although the same cannot be said of Carlos Salcedo, who seems to be on his way out.

The 'Titan' seems to have asked to leave the club and although his contract with Tigres ends in 2022, and Miguel Herrera does have him in his plans, there are offers from other teams in the Liga MX that he could consider, including one from Turkey.
