The elimination in quarterfinals against Tigres put an end to the stint of Juan Reynoso as Cruz Azul’s coach after only 18 months on the dugout, as the results that La Máquina achieved in the past semester were irregular, to say the least.

Diego Aguirre to arrive at Cruz Azul imposed by promoters and not for the good of the team

Although Reynoso was the coach that managed to break the 23-year drought without a Liga MX title for Los Cementeros in the first season he coached them, he couldn’t do much more in the next year, as they were eliminated in Repechaje the next season.

Cruz Azul showed a different face for Clausura 2022, at least during the first third of the season, as they were strong contenders for the title given the movements done during the winter transfer window given that they were facing two tournaments at the same time.

But Reynoso couldn’t keep the same intensity and La Máquina were eliminated in semifinals of CONCACAF Champions League and then in quarterfinals of Liga MX, something that the board couldn’t stand and decided to part ways with him.

Diego Aguirre knows which will be his first decision

After Cruz Azul decided to part ways with Reynoso during the week, it only took them a couple of days to find the coach that will replace him for Apertura 2022 thanks to Chivas, who took a long time deciding who is going to coach them.

According to reports from Jorge Ramos from ESPN, Diego Aguirre will be the next coach of Cruz Azul and is already planning the movements that he’s going to do once he is officially announced, movements that include a new striker, given that La Máquina lacked one.

One of the players that he’s looking to convince to join Los Cementeros is the Uruguayan striker Jonathan “Cabecita” Rodríguez, who already knows what means to wear Cruz Azul colors, as he left La Máquina less than six months ago, but is looking to regain his level prior Qatar 2022.

What would it take for Cruz Azul to sign him?

Given that the 28-year-old striker just joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr, it looks complicated that they will part ways with him if is not through a loan, although the lack of productivity could be a factor to sell him if they receive an offer around $7 million.
