Cruz Azul's best player is out and allows Miguel Herrera's Tigres to take a breather

A star player who has already scored against Tigres, was Cruz Azul's most sensitive injury at the start of the Apertura 2022.

Tigres and Cruz Azul faced each other this Saturday in Matchday 1 of the Apertura 2022 with the responsibility of both teams to be protagonists, as they did last tournament when they faced each other in the Quarter-Finals, with the felines advancing by position in the table.

However, it was on match-day 8 of that tournament that ‘La Máquina’ broke Tigres' team's five-game winning streak when it tied the game at the last minute with a goal from Ignacio Rivero, one of the best Cruz Azul players in recent years.

Fortunately for Miguel Herrera and his coaching staff, the Uruguayan was out for the start of the tournament as he sustained an injury in the Liga MX SuperCopa match that ruled him out,  there was no player with his characteristics to play several positions and join the front line.

It was at the 16th minute that Rafael Baca gave Cruz Azul the lead in what was the first goal of the Celeste team in the tournament, scored by one of the most criticized players in recent months by the Cementeros fans on social networks.
