Just three days before the winter transfer window closes, Cruz Azul surprised everyone in Liga MX by terminating his link with Lucas Passerini after he didn’t perform as expected and wasn’t able to become a regular for Juan Reynoso’s squad.

The 27-year-old Argentinian striker arrived in Cruz Azul for the second part of the 2019-20 Liga MX Season, but after just a semester with Cruz Azul, he joined Necaxa and then Atlético San Luis on back-to-back loans. He returned to Cruz Azul for Apertura 2021, where he only played a total of 278 minutes.

Now, Passerini only has three more days to find a new club, but Cruz Azul is planning on adding a new player to fill the spot that the Argentinian striker left, and their newest striker could already be playing in Liga MX.

Who can be Cruz Azul’s new striker?

Rumors suggest that La Máquina is after Jesús “Canelo” Angulo, who currently has been erased by Marcelo Michel Leaño and is looking to leave Chivas in order to have more playing time and maybe get attention from Gerardo “Tata” Martino, who needs strikers for El Tri.
