Cruz Azul is still looking to add another striker to his squad, prior to the start of Clausura 2022. They’ve been pondering some options, including Cristian Pavón from Boca Juniors –the negotiations are on hold as the player was tested positive for Covid-, as well as Luciano Vietto, who played for Valencia, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

Reports suggest that La Máquina is considering bidding for Robert Morales, a Paraguayan striker that currently plays for his hometown Cerro Porteño. But this option for the offensive side of Los Cementeros is a plan B in case the acquisition of Pavón doesn’t transcend.

The 22-year-old striker has played a total of 44 games for El Ciclón after he debuted during the 20/21 season. He’s scored a total of 16 goals and assisted on four occasions, which would come in hand for La Máquina, as they have “Chaquito” Gimenez as their lone striker.

The reason behind La Máquina’s pursue of another forward

Cruz Azul was ready to start the second round of 2021-21 Liga MX Season, until their plans changed when Jonathan “Cabecita” Rodríguez asked for his transfer to the Saudi Arabian soccer. Now, Juan Reynoso’s squad is against the clock to find his replacement.

How much is Cerro Porteño asking for his transfer?

Reports from the South American country suggests that Cerro Porteño is asking $2 million to let the striker join Liga MX side, a sum of money Cruz Azul might be willing to pay, as they earned $6.5 million from the sale of Rodríguez.
