Cruz Azul acquisitions paid off during first game of Clausura 2022
They seem to be the only team of "the big four" that really knew who to sign.
Cruz Azul started the second round of 2021-22 Liga MX Season on the right foot, as they won 2-0 against Tijuana Xolos on the pitch of Estado Azteca. The best part of last night’s game was that Cruz Azul felt comfortable playing together, even with the new players that joined the team during the offseason.
Three out of the four players that Cruz Azul acquired for Clausura 2022 already debuted on their first game, as Erik Lira, Uriel Antuna and Carlos “Charly” Rodríguez were part of the starting XI, as Juan Reynoso decided to give them a chance although they were officially presented just a couple days ago.
Even though La Máquina is still looking for another striker, they didn’t seem to suffer from a lack of goals, as even “Charly” Rodríguez scored his first goal wearing Cruz Azul colors. Alejandro Mayorga, who arrived from Chivas, was the lone addition that wasn’t part of Reynoso’s plans, as he didn´t make it to the bench.
Los Cementeros are still on the market for a striker and a defender
Although Clausura 2022 already started, Cruz Azul is still interested in adding a couple more players. This week Cristian Pavón’s fate will be decided, as he’s La Máquina’s top priority. They’re also looking in South America for another defender to complete Reynoso’s roster.
