Fernando “Tano” Ortíz was confirmed as the coach that will be in Club América’s dugout for Clausura 2022 after the outstanding performance that the team had since he took over after Week 8, as Las Águilas were able to reach semifinals after standing last at the half of the season.

One of the first things that “El Tano” needs to acknowledge is the lack of goals that the Club América strikers managed to score, as Henry Martín found the net on three occasions during the regular season and Federico Viñas just once.

Their lack of productivity hurt Las Águilas’s aspirations of winning a new Liga MX title, as they never found a way of beating Óscar Ustari in the semifinals against Pachuca, which is why they are willing to overpay for a striker that’s already proven in Liga MX.

Who is the striker that Club América wants?

Las Águilas have been following closely the performances of Atlas FC, as they have found in both Julio Furch and Julián Quiñones the perfect duo at the offense and given that both strikers have proven that they are successful in Liga MX, they want to sign Quiñones for Apertura 2022.

Although his market value is currently set at $5.1 million, Atlas FC, who just acquired him from Tigres, are not willing to sell him for that price, as he’s become an essential player that helped Los Rojinegros win back-to-back Liga MX titles.

That’s why according to reports, Las Águilas will have to pay at least $7 million if they want to start the negotiations for the 25-year-old Colombian striker, who scored nine goals in Clausura 2022 and assisted on two occasions.
