Liga MX: Club América, close to sign their first player for Apertura 2022

But Fernando “Tano” Ortíz, who now has the most probabilities of staying in Las Águilas bench for Apertura 2022 thanks to the 8-game streak without a single defeat, including six straight victories, knows that Club América needs to strengthen the squad for next season if they want to be able to keep competing at a high level.

One of the positions that is urgent for Las Águilas to strengthen is the striker, as Ortíz knows that they’ve been lacking a forward that can score consistently, given that Henry Martín hasn’t been able to contribute fin the past few months, as he’s only scored one goal in the past 11 games.

The rough patch in which Martín currently is made him lose his role in the starting XI, which was taken by Federico Viñas, although the Uruguayan striker has had a similar outcome than Martín’s, as he’s only scored one goal in the season, against FC Juárez.

Viñas will be on the move

When he first arrived at Club América, Viñas was one of the players with most potential in Las Águilas, but after Santiago Solari’s stint, the 23-year-old striker lost his confidence and hasn’t been able to recover his shape.

But given his young age and proved talent, Viñas could recover his scoring streak if he leaves Club América, as according to reports, he’s been followed by FC Juárez, the only team that he was able to score during Clausura 2022.

Viñas is under contract with Las Águilas until 2024 but given the help that Juárez needs in all the zones of the pitch, Las Águilas could either sell him or send him on a loan to Bravos, which would help him recover his shape, although first they will need to secure his replacement.

Which is the player that could replace Viñas?

Reports from W Deportes suggest that Las Águilas have been interested in Pumas’ striker Juan Ignacio Dinenno for a while and are waiting for Pumas season to be over to start negotiating his transfer. Dinenno scored three goals in Clausura 2022, but he also was the golden boot of the CONCACAF Champions League, where he scored nine goals in eight games.
