It’s true that things in Chivas are haven’t been working for a while, not only since Marcelo Michel Leaño took over El Rebaño during Apertura 2021, although he has only deepened the ongoing crisis, as he has won just 5 games of the 19 that he’s coached Chivas.

How much do Chivas and its main stars cost?

But since Amaury Vergara became the owner of El Rebaño after Jorge Vergara, his father, passed away, he hasn’t been able to solidify a real project in Chivas and instead, he’s been known for not taking care of the team and instead focusing on travelling and spending his fortune.

When he arrived, he decided to hire Ricardo Peláez as Chivas sporting director, given the experience that he had with two of the biggest Liga MX clubs, like Club América and Cruz Azul, added to his stint as sporting director of Mexico National Team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

But in the three years that Peláez has been in Chivas, he’s done little to none to help the team get back on track, as the most he did when he first arrived was going on a spending spree to acquire players that haven’t stepped up, including Uriel Antuna, who had a gray stint in El Rebaño but now is thriving in Cruz Azul.

That’s why Amaury Vergara finally realized that his experience as owner of a soccer club is disappointing, to say the least and, better late than never, he decided to ask for help, although his new counselor is the owner of the biggest rival that Chivas has in the region: Alejandro Irarragorri.

What has Irarragorri suggested to do?

According to reports from El Universal, the counseling that Irarragorri is giving Amaury Vergara is both as an executive and for the commercial side of soccer, and one of the first suggestions he had was to part ways with Marcelo Michel Leaño.

His reasoning has to do with the poor results Michel Leaño has had in Chivas’ dugout, added to the non-existing connection with the stands of Estadio Akron and Chivas followers, who have been asking for his dismissal since Apertura 2021 ended.

Who could replace Michel Leaño?

Irarragorri suggested that Vergara replaces Michel Leaño with someone that knows how the institution works, someone that has knowledge of the ideals of Chivas and feels a connection with the people. According to reports, that coach can be Ricardo Cadena.
