There is excitement ahead of the first leg of the quarterfinal between Puebla and América for the Liguilla of the Clausura 2022 Tournament. On Monday night, the Refereeing Commission announced the refereeing tribunals that will take part in the first leg of the quarterfinals and the bad news for the Águilas is that they will be refereed in the Angelópolis by someone who in the recent past has already harmed them a lot and, worst of all, there were no consequences for the referee.

Who is the referee for Puebla vs América at the Cuauhtémoc Stadium?

For the first match of the series, Enrique Isaac Bustos Díaz and Leonardo Javier Castillo Rodríguez will be the linesmen, Diego Montaño will be the fourth official and Gerardo Martínez Bravo and Guillermo Pacheco Larios will be in charge of the VAR. Finally, Luis Enrique Santander, who caused controversy in the regular phase of the Clausura 2022 in the Santos vs América game, will be the central referee.

Santiago Baños does not want the referee

In that match on Week 5, the 39-year-old Mexican referee was criticized by Santiago Baños for all the serious errors he made during the match, which even cost Álvaro Fidalgo several stitches. A protest was lodged and a harsh sanction was expected, but the Referees' Commission backed Santander and still let him referee the following match.

It is now feared that there will be controversial refereeing in the duel between Águilas and La Franja at the Cuauhtémoc, although it is hoped that the past will not come to the fore in a match of utmost importance for both institutions.

Who is Luis Enrique Santander Aguirre?

Luis Enrique has been a referee for 16 years. He made his professional debut in 2004 and made his LIGA MX debut in the Cruz Azul vs. Monarcas match in 2012.

Since then he has participated in 14 LIGA MX tournaments, in addition to refereeing in Concacaf Premundiales and Pre-Olympics, international competitions.

In 2015 he received the FIFA badge for the first time, being his greatest achievement, so far, his participation in more than 200 matches in the highest category, the FIFA badge, and his performance in international competitions.
