After Club América finally were able to win their first game in Estadio Azteca in over five months, it seems like things are slowly starting to turn around for Las Águilas, as they still have options to play in Repechaje if they’re able to earn 10 points in the last six games of Clausura 2022.

Raúl Jiménez doesn’t close the door to returning to Club América soon

But Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños have yet to find a coach that takes over the team once the current season is over, given that the promotion of Fernando “Tano” Ortíz was only temporal, as he was asked to handle the emergency as good as he could.

According to reports, the coach that is closer to arrive in Las Águilas’ dugout for the 2022-23 season is Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti, as the Brazilian coach is set to leave FC Juárez once his contract expires at the end of the season.

And with his arrival to Club América, he could convince one of the best strikers in Liga MX to follow him to Mexico City, as he has a good relationship with him given that was the coach that received André-Pierre Gignac when he joined Tigres back in 2015.

Can Gignac leave Tigres?

The 36-year-old French forward has said in the past that he doesn’t see with bad eyes leaving Los Felinos if the right offer arrives, even if his wish is to retire with Tigres. The only team he’s said that he won’t play for is CF Monterrey.

This opens the door to a possible arrival in El Nido, especially if Ferretti is the new coach of Las Águilas. His addition could mean the return of Club América to the essence of what it meant to be Azulcrema, as they haven’t had a signing of the size of Gignac in a long time.

Gignac’s numbers in Liga MX

André-Pierre Gignac has played seven seasons with Tigres since arriving in Liga MX in 2015. So far, the 36-year-old French striker has played 283 games with Los Felinos, where he’s scored 162 games and has assisted on 39 times.

For now, he’s under contract with Tigres until the end of the 2023-24 season, but if Club América were looking to acquire him, they would have to pay at least $2 million for him and offer him a better salary than the $4.6 million per season that Los Felinos pay him.
