Chivas has yet to find a solid long-term project that can make them a real contender for Liga MX title and not just aspire to access Liguilla via Repechaje, as they were eliminated las season while trying to follow that same plan.

But after 10 rounds of Clausura 2022, it's become evident that there's nothing much they can do with Marcelo Michel Leaño as their coach, given the lack of structure El Rebaño has showed since he arrived in Verde Valle during Apertura 2021.

Prior to the Clásico Tapatío, Marcelo Michel Leaño has coached Chivas for 19 games, from which El Rebaño has won just five of them. They've tied seven games more and lost the remainder seven for a total of 22 out of the 57 available points.

Amaury Vergara knows that things won't change for Chivas if he keeps Michel Leaño on the dugout, and even if he promised the Mexican coach that he'll finish the season with Chivas, El Rebaño is looking for a new coach and all thanks to Alejandro Irarragorri.

What does Irarragorri have to do with Chivas?

Even if Alejandro Irarragori is owner of Atlas, one of Chivas biggest rivalries alongside Club América, that hasn’t stopped Amaury Vergara to seek for his help when he finally realized that things are not working for El Rebaño.

Irarragorri has one of the best business models in Mexican soccer, as he’s been successful with both Atlas and Santos Laguna, clubs that he owns through Grupo Orlegi, which is why he’s counseling Vergara on how to handle Chivas.

By doing so, he pointed to the mistakes he’s done in recent years, especially with the promotion of Marcelo Michel Leaño to the first team, as he was coaching the U-20 before José Manuel Vucetich was sacked, which opens the door to the potential replacement of Michel Leaño.

Who is the coach that can replace him?

One of the things that Irarragorri suggested Vergara was to choose someone who is connected to the club, that understands what Chivas means. That’s why he proposed to give the job to Ricardo Cadena, who is doing a great job with Tapatío, Chivas reserves team.
