One of the things that Cruz Azul suffered the most during the regular season of Clausura 2022 was the lack of a striker that could score consistently, as Iván Morales, who has been the starting forward in the last games of La Máquina, only managed to score one goal.
When he plays for Cruz Azul, fans are happy, but Reynoso still wants him out of La Maquina
Cruz Azul started the season with Jonathan “Cabecita” Rodríguez, Brayan Angulo, and Santiago Giménez as the three strikers on the roster, but after “Cabecita” Rodríguez requested his transfer, La Máquina had to look for someone to replace him.
Iván Morales was the chosen striker to fill his role, although the starting forward was Brayan Angulo, until he decided to rescind his contract at the start of April to join Brazilian side Santos FC, leaving Cruz Azul with only Morales and Giménez.
It’s unknown why Juan Reynoso doesn’t trust in Santiago Giménez, who ended being the striker with more goals scored in Clausura 2022, but if the lack of playing time could end up affecting him for next season, that is if he remains in the roster, as rumors have placed him away from La Máquina.
That’s why Cruz Azul are after a new striker for Apertura 2022, as they know that they need depth in the roster if they want to avoid a new irregular streak like the one that they had this season, which is why they are pursuing the addition of one of the best strikers in Liga MX, Juan Ignacio Dinenno.
Dinenno knows about the interest that La Máquina has in him, but given the affection that he feels towards Los Universitarios, he doesn’t want to leave without at least helping them earning a good income for his departure.
The Argentine striker is on the last months of his contract, but according to ESPN, he’s negotiating a contract extension for three more years, which might not ensure his stay at Pumas, although the possibility remains given the high release clause that they’ve established.
Although his market value currently is set at $5 million, according to the reports, the contract extension will be set between $8 million and $10 million, figure that Cruz Azul will have to pay if they want to sign the golden boot of the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League.
