Zinedine Zidane announced his managerial acumen to the world after winning three consecutive UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid in 2016, 2017 and 2018, and has put top clubs on red alert in case he leaves Real Madrid, which he did at the end of last season after losing the league on the final day.

Zinedine acknowledged that when results don't go your way at a club of Madrid's stature, you have to go but was not pleased with the media incineration given to him close to the end of his time at Madrid. He has been linked to several jobs but has not accepted any.

When he first left Real Madrid in 2018, it was reported that he was to take the job of the Qatar national team in preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be played in Qatar and that he would receive a whopping salary of €50m but nothing concrete emerged afterwards.

He is currently being linked with the Manchester United job with growing pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but Zidane does not speak English, though there are many Spanish and French speakers in the United team. He is also reported to be waiting to take the French national team job after Didier Deschamps contract expires after the 2022 World Cup.
