Luis Enrique, coach of the Spanish National Team, decided to leave captain Sergio Ramos out of the Eurocup and confirmed the squad with 24 players, which highlights the debut of Aymeric Laporte and the return of César Azpilicueta, Adama Traoré and Pablo Sarabia. In due course, for the first time in the history of the competition, there's no Real Madrid player cited for the competition.

In the press conference he gave after announcing the list, Luis Enrique explained: "I decided that he should not be on the list because he hasn't been able to compete in the right conditions since January. It hasn't been easy, last night I had the opportunity to communicate it by phone. He's someone who has always been at the highest level and very professional. It's a complicated decision but I always seek the benefit of the team".

Sergio Ramos' message after not being cited

Sergio Ramos, captain of the Spanish National Team, published a message on his Instagram after the news was known. "After a few fucked-up months and an atypical season that's different from what I've experienced in my entire career, the Eurocup also joins. I've fought and worked body and soul every day to be able to reach 100% with Real Madrid and the Selection, but things don't always go the way you want", the message began.

And he sentenced: "It hurts me not to have been able to help my team more and not defend Spain but, in this case, it's better to rest, fully recover and, next year, return as we have always done to your country, but you have to be honest and sincere. I wish all my teammates the best of luck and hopefully we will have a great Eurocup. I will cheer like one more from home".

Real Madrid doesn't give players for the first time in history

Luis Enrique's summons for Euro 2020 will go down in history for being the first time that no Real Madrid player has been summoned. The physical problems suffered by Sergio Ramos, the captain of La Roja in recent years, and Dani Carvajal, have meant that he has not finally had any Merengue player. Nor has Marco Asensio arrived on time, with a lack of regularity and continuity.

"Two of the players who could have participated this season, such as Carvajal and Ramos, would be in the squad. I do not make bobbin lace or to make some clubs or others happy. I do not make the list based on that, I strongly regret that they are not there. these two Real Madrid players due to injuries", said Luis Enrique. Never to date in World Cups and Euro Cups this fact had occurred.
