It is rare not to see Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo nominated for best players but the bad season of FC Barcelona and Juventus in the Champions League meant that none of the stars participated in the UEFA awards. On this occasion, the vast majority of the prizes went to the Bayern Munich players, the team that was champion.

There was no doubt that the award for the best goalkeeper of the year was going to go to Manuel Neuer since thanks to his great performances and saves, Bayern Munich did not lose any game throughout the Champions League. He continues to show that he is the best goalkeeper in the world over the last few years and that he is one step above his compatriot Ter Stegen, of FC Barcelona.

As for the defenders, the award went to Kimmich. His participation in the defensive game was the key for Bayern Munich championship. Not only he contributed in the defense but it was very important to start the offensive plays in the German team. The podium was completed by Alaba and Alphonso Davies.

The only award that a Bayern Munich player was not awarded was for best midfielder, which was presented to Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City. Unfortunately his team did not have a good season but it was enough for him to show the quality of a player he is and to win the award.

Finally, the award for best forward went to Robert Lewandoski. There was no question with this position as the Polish forward for Bayern scored 15 goals in 10 Champions League games his team won.
