The rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has defined an era in football. Many have argued that the two football greats co-existing at the same period are a significant factor in pushing them to greater heights. Between 2009 & 2018, both players went head-to-head week after week in the Spanish La Liga, with many neutrals drawn to watch the Spanish league because of their rivalry.

With Messi's move to PSG, it means both players are playing different leagues. However, Ronaldo is into the final season of his contract at Juventus. The possibility of a move to France, to battle with his eternal rival, might interest him. So we'll look at 3 teams in France where Ronaldo might play.

Lille: Current Ligue 1 Champions, Lille are one of the possible clubs that Ronaldo could sign for if he wants to challenge Messi. Lille is the only French club in recent times to win the League other than PSG. The presence and persuasion of Portuguese legend, Jose Fonte might also tempt Ronaldo to move there.

Lyon: Olympique Lyonnais is also a French club with a lot of pedigree. They boast of decent players such as Moussa Dembele, Lucas Paqueta, Anthony Lopez and Houssem Aouar. This pedigree of players could provide Ronaldo with the perfect supporting cast for his lunge at his rival, Messi.

Paris Saint-German: The most audacious but also the most interesting of the options. Football fans would give anything to have Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo play in the same team. If PSG does not win the UEFA Champions League this season, perhaps, they might consider signing the next-best player available for free next season. This would shoot the popularity of the club and the rivalry between both players to stratospheric levels.
