Will Messi score on his debut for PSG? The Incredible record he has in debuts

Lionel Messi will be making his first-ever appearance for PSG today in the Ligue 1 match against Reims. The 34-year-old had been at FC Barcelona for 21 years, playing 18 full seasons for the Catalan club as part of the senior team. Messi made his official debut for Barcelona on October 16, 2004, in a La Liga match against Espanyol. We will look at how Messi performed across all his debuts in competitions. 

His official debut was in La Liga, coming on as a second-half substitute in the match against Espanyol. Messi played only 8 minutes in the match that ended 1-0, coming on to replace the lone goalscorer of the match, Deco. Thus, Messi's La Liga debut was quite uneventful. 

11 days after his La Liga debut, Messi also made Copa del Rey bow against lowly third-tier side UDA Gramenet. Messi started the match alongside other Barca regulars Xavi, Iniesta, Giuly and Larsson. However, it was a match to forget as Barcelona was beaten 1-0 by the third division side. Lionel Messi didn't have much of an impact in this game either. 

In the UEFA Champions League, Lionel Messi made his debut in December 2004, against Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk. The match was a group stage dead-rubber with Barcelona having secured qualification to the next stage. Yet again, Lionel Messi ended on the losing side, with his side losing the game 2-0 despite the presence of Puyol, Iniesta and Xavi in a heavily-rotated Barcelona team. 

Going by Messi's major debut, he has largely had no effect, often ending up on the losing side. The only exception to this occurrence was in his FIFA Club World Cup debut in 2009 when he scored with 2 minutes of his introduction off the bench against the Mexican side, Atlante. In the final of the competition, Messi also scored an extra-time winning goal against Estudiantes. Despite his modest debuts, Lionel Messi has gone on to break many other records in these competitions.
