Raphael Varane left Real Madrid at the beginning of the season after spending 10 years at the Santiago Bernabeu and winning every trophy with Real Madrid and also with his country France. He joined Manchester United for a new adventure and has been a regular for the club.

He was subbed off injured in the match against Spain in the UEFA Nations League victory and it was said that the injury may require surgery and likely keep him out of action for long, leaving a void in the club's defence and with club captain Harry Maguire also injured, who will play center back for the club?

The club has two experienced centre backs available. Swedish defender Victor Lindelof who was Maguire's partner last season but Varane had benched this season. He will benefit from Varane's injury as he will return to the starting lineup, most likely pairing up with African defender Eric Baily.

Another option in defence for the club is English defender Phil Jones who has been injured for almost two years and recently returned to training. Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar could also play midfielder Scott McTominay as a defender.
