Since Lionel Messi joined PSG over the summer, he’s been moving away from the performances he got us used to with FC Barcelona and Argentina National Team, as he’s lost multiple games after getting injured and then testing positive for Covid-19.
Mbappé saved PSG’s victory over Real Madrid with a last-minute goal
He has slowly regained his shape, but on the match against Real Madrid for the first leg of the round of 16 of Champions League, he failed a penalty shoot that would have meant the partial victory of PSG, as he didn’t place the ball away from Thibaut Courtois and neither shoot it with enough power. Luckily for him, Kylian Mbappé was able to score right at the end of the game to give PSG the victory.
At the same time, but miles away from Paris, Manchester United was playing against Brighton Hove & Albion on a Premier League match, and just minutes after Messi failed his penalty, Cristiano Ronaldo scored an authentic ‘golazo’, showing the world why he is the best soccer player.
Brighton defenders lost the ball before even getting to the middle of the field, given the high-pressure United was putting on. When the ball arrived in Ronaldo’s boots, he quickly run towards the penalty box, dribbling away three defenders in a single move and striking the ball towards the furthest post, leaving Robert Sánchez out of the play.
Although they are far from their highest market values -Messi’s used to be $198 million and Ronaldo’s was $132 million-, currently the PSG striker costs $66 million, and the Portuguese highest National Team scorer is set at $38.5 million.
