Cristiano Ronaldo will be starting on the bench against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the last time he was benched was against Everton in the league under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The manager was criticised for benching Ronaldo after the match ended in a 1-1 draw against the Toffees at Old Trafford. Today makes it the second time since making his return to Old Trafford that he will be missing in the starting lineup.
Since turning 30 he has only been benched 11 times in 273 league games. It is very rare that a player of Cristiano Ronaldo status will be missing in the starting lineup despite being fit and making the matchday squad.
The Portuguese did not have an impressive record against the Blues as his only goal against them was in the final of the 2008 UEFA Champions League final which ended 1-1 before Manchester United went on to win in the penalty shootout.
