Lionel Messi shockingly left Barcelona at the end of last season despite agreeing to a new contract and taking a 50% pay cut but a certain La Liga policy forced him out after Barcelona refused a certain CVC deal that could hinder future European Super League participation.
Messi's departure generated a lot of controversies with President Joan Laporta saying he wished Messi could have played for free, a situation that was not even possible under Spanish rules. Messi fired back claiming he was never asked to play for free and that he did all the club asked for.
It has now emerged there may have been more to the situation than was revealed. Gerard Pique was reported to have told Laporta that he should let Messi leave and that if he leaves nothing would happen and Messi got to know about the conversation which he felt betrayed by.
Messi was quoted in an interview listing his ex- teammate he still speaks to and Pique wasn't mentioned. "Yes. I speak often with [Sergio] Kun Aguero, who was not a teammate but is a great friend. [And I also speak] with Busi [Sergio Busquets], [and] with Jordi Alba often [too]."
