Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Manchester United has not gone as planned for both player and club. He had a spark in his first few games but it was not coincidental that his performance has dropped when the team too has lost its momentum.

As much has manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gets the stick for the team's performance, Cristiano Ronaldo too has gotten a fair share of the blame for his contribution to the team, much of which comes through goals, otherwise he's a deficiency in the team due to his lack of press further forward which impedes the teams ability to win balls in the final third.

Solskjaer has defended Ronaldo by saying he is doing the best he can to help the team; “We’ve got 11 players on the pitch with different roles and responsibilities. We put a team out there that we think is going to win that game, we didn’t win against Leicester so there’s always going to be criticism. Cristiano is an absolute top player and we know what he can do for us and he’s doing everything he can do to help the team.”

Pressure continues to mount on Solskjaer to turn things around at the club though the club's heirarchy have claimed to be hundred percent behind him. United will face a tricky tie against Italian side Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League tomorrow, a must win match for all indications.
