Lionel Messi clinched his seventh Ballon d'Or yesterday, an incredible record that will take forever to break being the only player to have won seven and that is two more than any other player next to him.

Some of the Ballon d'Or records the former Barcelona player broke is for having the highest percentage of first position vote, accumulating 90% of first position vote in the year 2010 which was his second. 

He was the only player to have won the award more consecutively, winning four consecutively in the year 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012. No one has ever won the award four times consecutively.

Lionel Messi had a very successful football year despite the struggles of FC Barcelona he was able to achieve a lot and less go on to break records in 2021, he was the highest goal scorer in the La Liga, and he won the Copa del Rey. Top of it all was winning the Copa America with Argentina, the nation's first major trophy in 28 years after several attempts.
