Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have dominated the Ballon d'Or in the last 12 years. Both have made goals and assists the deciding factor for the Ballon d'Or. This year's Ballon d'Or is somewhat tricky, will it be given to goal merchants as usual or will it go to the best achievers?

The top contenders for this year's award are Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandoski, Karim Benzema and Jorginho. Only Jorginho is a midfielder and not a goal merchant. Messi, Benzema and Lewandoski have a lot of goals in the year 2021 and deserve to win the award.

Jorginho claims goals alone should not decide the Ballon d'Or as he thinks he deserves the award just as the others who are goals scorers. Most of Jorginho's goals came from the spot as he rarely scored.

He has three goals and one assist so far this season and all came from the penalty spot. He believes he has achieved enough to deserve the award than any other candidate having won the UEFA Champions League and Euro 2020. The award winner will be announced in the next few weeks.
