It is strange to talk about the best player in the world and not think about Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo or, at most, Kylian Mbappé. Is that these three beasts, with the French gaining much more ground in recent years, have long been the greatest exponents of world football and justify it with goals, titles, records and distinctions.

However, for UEFA, which released the shortlist for the awards, none of the three fit the nickname of Player of the Year, at least this season. Kevin De Bruyne, Jorginho or N'Golo Kanté. From this small group of stars the chosen one will come out.

Beyond the striking absences, it is clear that the three selected by UEFA have made enough merits to occupy that place: the Belgian had a superlative year at Manchester City that stayed with the Premier League, Kanté won the Orejona being a figure of the decisive duel and his partner, also a Chelsea midfielder, also added the Eurocup.
