Lionel Messi's start to life for his new club Paris Saint-Germain could not have come at a better time than on a big occasion than against one of his former managers, Pep Guardiola. He overcame an injury to start the match and capped it off with his first goal for the Paris club.

The Argentine joined the club from Barcelona and failed to find the target in his first three games, suffering an injury that kept him out of two games in his third match. He started the match against Manchester City against all odds and rewarded his manager Mauricio Pochettino's faith in him to start with a goal. He also taught his former manager Pep Guardiola to be careful of what to wish for.

What Pep Guardiola wished for before the match?

Pep Guardiola before the match said he wished Messi was fit to start, yes, he was fit and punished him with a goal. "It was a surprise for everyone that Messi left Barcelona but that's what happened. Everyone now accepts it.A long time ago you couldn't imagine it but it happened. In life itself you never know what happens. I'm pretty sure he'll be happy in Paris. His career is exceptional. Hopefully tomorrow he can play for the benefit of the game."

How many games has it taken Messi to score his first goal?

Lionel Messi came on as a substitute in his first game against Reims and only played 25minutes. His second game was a Champions League game against Club Brugge and he failed to score in the match despite starting alongside Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappé. He was subbed off in his third game against Olympique Lyon much to his dissatisfaction but it was later revealed he suffered an injury that kept him out of the games against Metz and Montpellier. He scored in his fourth game tonight and his second Champions League game.
