Lionel Messi departed FC Barcelona to join Paris Saint-Germain and will play under manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is also from his country Argentina. Pochettino became PSG manager in January 2021 after former manager Thomas Tuchel was sacked. Messi and Pochettino share a few things in common.

They are both from Argentina

Messi and his new coach are both from the same country Argentina. Messi is from Rosario, Argentina while Pochettino is from Murphy, Argentina. The two represented the country at all youth levels and the senior team of the national team.

They both played for Newell's Old Boys

Both Lionel Messi and Mauricio Pochettino played for Argentine club Newell's Old Boys. Pochettino played for Newell's between 1989 and 1993 while Lionel Messi played for the club between 1995 to 2000 before he joined Barcelona famed academy La Masia.

They both played for PSG

Mauricio Pochettino played for PSG between 2001 to 2003 and captained the club as a defender. Lionel Messi joining PSG after surprisingly leaving Barcelona completes the trio of things they share in common. If Messi doesn't stay beyond his two years contract at PSG, it would be that the two played for PSG for two years.
